BLUFFTON, S.C. () — Second Helpings, a nonprofit organization focused on food rescue, is reintroducing its tourism-focused initiative, ‘Post-Vacation Food Donation,’ for the third consecutive year.

Starting May 24, designated donation bins will be strategically located around Hilton Head Island, allowing tourists and residents to easily donate unopened, nonperishable groceries at any time.

The initiative aims to gather food that Second Helpings will distribute to one of the seven food pantries and soup kitchens that assist those facing food insecurity on Hilton Head Island.

Amy Colin, Second Helpings Executive Director, said “We’re excited about the expansion of the food drop-off bins to more locations around the Island. With the help of Coligny Plaza and Palmetto Dunes, we realized last year that the bins were a convenient way for tourists to donate food. And, thanks to rental management companies and others in the community who helped us get the word out, the program is expanding just as the need for food is growing. Some 5,000 people on Hilton Head Island are struggling with hunger.”

The bins will replace the Saturday morning food collections from previous years.
