Meanwhile, the ACCESS LYNX bus was also moving east on Wetherbee Road, approaching the same intersection at Isle of Wright Drive, but was in the lane designated for left turns.
Troopers said the Tesla driver was traveling above the posted speed limit and approached a slower moving vehicle ahead.
According to the report, the Tesla driver attempted to change lanes and failed to maintain control of the vehicle causing the car to rotate and veer into the left turn lane.
As a result, the front of the Tesa collided with the back left of the LYNX bus.
Troopers said that impact caused the bus to overturn onto its left side, then land back upright, partially on the sidewalk and road.
According to the report, a 75-year-old Orlando man who was passenger on the bus was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead. The bus driver, identified as a 48-year-old Kissimmee man, was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries.
Troopers said a 27-year-old Kissimmee man riding on the bus tas taken to Dr. Phillips Hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the Tesla, identified as a 35-year-old Orlando man, was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center as a trauma alert with serious injuries.
According to the LYNX website, ACCESS LYNX is a door-to-door transportation service that “provides service for eligible individuals who are not able to use the regular fixed route bus service because of a disability or other limitations.”
The crash was the second fatal crash on Saturday involving a LYNX bus. Earlier in the day, a 67-year-old Orlando woman died after being struck by a LYNX bus that she had walked in front of, the FHP said.
The crash remains under investigation.
