SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – In a tragic incident late Friday night, a man and a woman lost their lives after their golf cart was hit at an intersection near The Villages. This information comes from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The collision took place at approximately 9:30 p.m. at the crossroads of County Road 109 and U.S. 27 in Sumter County, authorities reported.

The Florida Highway Patrol stated that the golf cart was operated by a 64-year-old man from Lady Lake, with a 58-year-old woman from The Villages as his passenger.

While traveling west on C.R. 109, the golf cart driver allegedly ran a red light, entering the path of a Kia Soul traveling south on U.S. 27, resulting in the collision, according to the official report.

The impact with the Kia caused the golf cart to overturn. Both individuals inside the golf cart were subsequently taken to a hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries, as per the troopers’ account.

The driver of the Kia, a 23-year-old woman from Eustis, suffered minor injuries and was hospitalized. A 1-year-old boy from Leesburg, who was with her during the crash, also received medical attention for minor injuries, the FHP noted.
