One dead, two hospitalized in Decatur crash

A 68-year-old man from Decatur lost his life after suffering serious injuries in a two-car crash that occurred on Friday afternoon.

Decatur Police Officers responded to a call at around 3:11 p.m. on June 13, concerning a collision at the intersection of W Rock Springs Road and Westgate Drive. Upon investigation, they discovered that a Chrysler PT Cruiser was positioned in the eastbound lane of W Rock Springs Road, facing the opposite direction.

The PT Cruiser made a sudden right turn across the westbound lane, aiming for a driveway on the north side of W Rock Springs Road. A Chevrolet 1500 truck heading west on the same road then hit the passenger side of the PT Cruiser.

The driver of the Chevrolet 1500 was an 18-year-old male and Decatur resident, while the passenger was a juvenile male from Decatur. Both occupants of this vehicle were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the PT Cruiser was a 68-year-old male and Decatur resident. He sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Additionally, there were no indications that the driver of the Chevrolet 1500 was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Members of the Fatal Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and are actively investigating the crash.
