In a tragic turn of events in Marion County, Florida, early Saturday morning, a motorhome crash led to the death of a young boy and left 13 others severely injured. This incident, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol, unfolded around 5:45 a.m. on the junction of U.S. 27 and County Road 316.
The collision involved a motorhome and an SUV. According to the crash report, the motorhome was heading northward on U.S. 27 while the SUV was moving west on C.R. 316. The impact was so severe that it caused the motorhome to flip over.
Inside the motorhome, a 5-year-old boy tragically lost his life at the crash site. The accident also left 12 other passengers critically injured, all of whom were rushed to a hospital for urgent medical attention.
The driver of the SUV, a 25-year-old woman from Old Town, was among those critically hurt and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
This accident serves as a solemn reminder of the unpredictable nature of road travel and the critical importance of road safety for all travelers. The community is left mourning the loss of a young life and hoping for the recovery of those injured.
A 5-year-old boy in the motorhome was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the FHP. In addition, 12 occupants in the motorhome were taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
