OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol troopers are searching for a suspect vehicle after a bicyclist was reportedly killed in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday near Poinciana.

The crash occurred just after midnight in the intersection of Pleasant Hill Road and Sun Cove Drive, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the bicyclist — identified as a man — was traveling east in the middle of the intersection when he was struck by the front of an unknown vehicle that was headed north in the inside lane of northbound Pleasant Hill Road.

The impact sent the bicyclist into the outside lane of Pleasant Hill Road, where he was then struck by the left side of a northbound sedan whose driver had attempted to swerve out of the way, the report states.

Both of the vehicles had a green light, troopers said.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP.

Though the driver of the second car stayed at the scene, the first driver fled northbound on Pleasant Hill Road, troopers said. Witnesses told FHP that the suspect vehicle is a newer-model black Honda Accord, according to the report.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call FHP at *347 or Crimeline at 800-423-8477.

Leaving the scene of a crash that results in property damage, injury, or death is against the law.

If involved in a crash, stay at the scene, call for help, and follow these steps:

1. Make sure you and any passengers are okay. Remain calm.

2. If possible, move to the side of the road. Remove your keys if you get out of your vehicle, move off the roadway, and stay in a safe area.

3. Check on others involved. Call 911 if anyone might be injured or a vehicle is inoperable.

4. If there are no injuries or major property damage, gather information. Get the name, driver license, insurance, and tag information from the other driver(s). Take photos of the vehicles and information if you can’t write it down and then file a report online.
