BEECH ISLAND, S.C. () – Aiken County Coroner’s Office is investigating the shooting death of a 10-year-old.

The incident happened just before midnight, Wednesday, at a home on the 100 block of Dorsett Kenzie Road, near Church Road off Pine Log Road.

The victim has been identified by Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables as 10-year-old Lavinia Lowe. She was discovered on her bed with a gunshot wound to the head. Lavinia was pronounced deceased at 1:30 a.m. An autopsy is planned.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, Coroner’s Office and SLED are investigating.

“Any murder is unacceptable, but the murder of an innocent child is the most depraved act

possible and these families, and this community should not have to endure acts like this. The

Aiken County Sheriff’s Office has all its resources focused on this murder and the murder that

occurred over the weekend. I have requested help from other local agencies, state agencies, and

federal agencies to assist us with these two cases.”
