Tragic Incident: Student Fatally Stabbed at Phoenix High School

() A high school student is dead in Arizona, and another is in police custody after a classroom fight escalated Tuesday, according to Phoenix police.

A school safety officer responded to reports of an assault in a classroom at Maryvale High School just before 11 a.m.

Authorities said two students were involved the suspect, who was detained with injuries, and a second student “suffering from multiple stab wounds.”

The second teen later died at the hospital, police said. School officials have called the incident a “senseless tragedy.”

“As a mother, my heart goes out to the grieving mother, the siblings, the entire family, and their friends,” expressed Superintendent Thea Andrade at a news briefing on Wednesday.

Investigators have asked that anyone with information about the incident contact the Phoenix Police Department.
