MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. – This year, a somber Christmas has enveloped a neighborhood in Brevard County.
Tragedy struck on Christmas Eve when firefighters responded to a fatal blaze in a mobile home on Whaley Road, located in northern Merritt Island.
Neighbor Todd Brown shared his observations with community correspondent James Sparvero, explaining, “Most homes are built with drywall, but this one had plywood, turning it into a massive oven.”
According to Brown, five individuals resided in the mobile home.
Brown witnessed the fire ignite at approximately 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
“By the time I reached the back corner, the entire structure was already ablaze,” recounted Brown. “I rushed over, but they stopped me from entering. It was too late; the fire had consumed everything.”
A GoFundMe is online right now to support a young mother who lived in the home.
The fundraiser is asking for donations to cover basic expenses now.
Firefighters didn’t know what started the fire at the time of this writing, nor did they identify the victim.
