(NewsNation) — PGA golfer Jake Knapp’s girlfriend, Makena White, died unexpectedly at the age of 28, according to a social media announcement.
A friend posted on White’s Instagram account announcing that she had died earlier in the week.
“Makena was truly unique. She possessed this extraordinary ability to make you feel important, and her large heart was always brimming with affection. Being loved by Makena was a blessing; it included endless laughter, abundant joy, and a delightful touch of chaos as we attempted to keep pace with her travel plans,” the post stated.
In White’s memory, the post asked people to donate to the Bruyère Brain Health & Memory Clinic or the Griffin Bell Endowment Fund.
White’s mother, Crystal, had started going to the clinic in 2018 and was eventually diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
White and Knapp started their relationship in August 2023, but they only revealed it to the public in February 2024. Subsequently, she was often seen attending events to support Knapp.
White’s last post on Instagram, from August 11, praised Knapp.
“Second season completed — eternally thankful to embark on this journey with you. Here’s to many, many more! I looooove you, sweet boy; you make it incredibly easy to be proud,” she wrote.
No information is available on White’s cause of death.
