CHICAGO (WGN) It has been a violent Labor Day weekend in Chicago, with numerous shootings and several fatalities reported throughout the city since Friday evening.

The Chicago Police Department will provide official figures on Tuesday morning, but as of early Monday, local affiliate WGN News reported that 50 individuals had been shot, including eight fatalities, since 5 p.m. on Friday.

The youngest person shot so far appears to be a 14-year-old boy, and at least three of the weekend shootings included multiple victims.

According to WGN’s count, this year’s Labor Day weekend violence may have already surpassed last year’s, when a total of 31 people were shot.

This tragic weekend coincides with President Donald Trump’s administration gearing up for a greater presence of federal agents and the possible deployment of National Guard troops in Chicago.

Trump criticized Gov. JB Pritzker in a social media post on Saturday, cautioning him that he needs to resolve Chicago’s crime issues swiftly “or we’re coming.”

Nonetheless, the latest data from the CPD indicates that overall crime rates have decreased by 13% this year, while shooting incidents have reduced by nearly 40% compared to the 2024 statistics.

Nonetheless, the Labor Day weekend gun violence continued overnight Sunday into the Monday holiday. Here’s a closer look at some of the incidents:

The most recent reported homicide, according to Chicago police, happened Sunday night in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the city’s Southwest Side.
