DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A local legend returned home to Danville, and he brought some big-name friends.

Trent Sherfield, a former Danville Viking now playing as a Denver Broncos wide receiver, organized a charity celebrity basketball game at Danville High School. He was joined by several notable individuals, including NFL players and former Danville High School basketball stars. Among the attendees were Pro Bowler Latavius Murray and Super Bowl Champion Prince Amukamara.

The event raises money and awareness for his foundation: Diamonds Amongst the Rough.

“We’re aiming to generate funds to ultimately achieve our foundation’s primary goal: to construct a sports facility here in our hometown for local youth,” Sherfield stated. “It all began in 2018, and it has since gained momentum, expanding into larger initiatives that we’re striving to accomplish.”

He said the event will return to Danville again next year. Sherfield also said Saturday would continue their work with a gala in Danville.
