ORLANDO, Fla. – Tropical Storm Andrea formed in the middle of the Atlantic, marking the first named storm of the 2025 hurricane season.

As of Tuesday morning, Andrea has top sustained winds of around 40 mph. It is anticipated to weaken later on Tuesday and disappear by Wednesday night. Andrea is traveling east-northeast at about 17 mph.

Andrea should stay a “fish-storm,” moving further out into the northern Atlantic.

Per the National Hurricane Center, the tropical Atlantic usually experiences its first named storm by June 20, its first hurricane by August 11, and its first major hurricane by September 1.

The next named storm will be Barry.
