Trump says he might send Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine

President Trump said Sunday that he may send Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine if Russia doesn’t settle its ongoing war with the country.

While conversing with journalists aboard Air Force One, the president mentioned the possibility of a discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin before proceeding with the delivery of missiles to Ukraine. These missiles are capable of reaching targets more than 1,000 miles away.

“I might say that the Tomahawk is a remarkable and highly offensive weapon. In truth, Russia doesn’t need that right now,” Trump commented on what his message to Putin would be.

Additionally, Trump held a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday. Following their dialogue, Zelenskyy informed Fox News that Ukraine requires “long-distance capabilities,” and both leaders are actively “working” towards securing Tomahawk missiles for Ukraine.

This action would provide Ukraine with the capability to extend its reach deeper into Russian territory. Recently, a Russian official conveyed that if the Trump administration proceeds with supplying Tomahawks to Ukraine, they would intercept them, target the launch sites, and consider retaliating against the U.S., as reported by Reuters.

The conflict, which started with Russia’s incursion into Ukraine in February 2022, is nearing its fourth anniversary despite efforts by the Trump administration to negotiate a ceasefire. On Saturday night, Russia targeted Ukraine’s power infrastructure, injuring two people, according to the Associated Press.

On Sunday, Zelenskyy shared on X that Moscow had launched over 3,100 drones, 1,360 glide bombs, and 92 missiles. He also reported an aerial bomb causing the death of a child at a church in Kostiantynivka on Saturday.

After Israel and Hamas agreed to phase one of Trump administration peace proposal, Zelenskyy and Putin praised Trump in recent days. The former said Saturday on the social platform X that “surely other wars can be stopped as well,” while Putin said Trump is “doing a lot to resolve such complex crises” at a summit of former Soviet Union countries in Tajikistan.

Last month, Trump said on his Truth Social platform that Ukraine could win the war and regain Russian-occupied territory. Zelenskyy announced last Thursday that a senior Ukrainian delegation, led by Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko, will visit the U.S. this week.
