(The Hill) — President Donald Trump issued a proclamation on Wednesday blocking individuals from 12 nations from entering the U.S. and imposing added travel limitations on individuals from another seven countries.

The president cited national security concerns in announcing the ban, which officially takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on Monday.

The proclamation mirrors a travel ban from Trump’s initial term, offering exemptions for citizens from these 19 countries who are U.S. lawful permanent residents, current visa holders, and those whose entry aligns with U.S. national interests.

In a video posted online, Trump said that additional countries could be added to the list if new international threats arise at a later point.

“The list can be revised if significant improvements occur,” stated the president. “Additionally, new countries may be included as global threats unfold, but we will not permit anyone to enter our nation with harmful intentions, and we are committed to protecting America.”
