President Trump is anticipated to approve an executive order that will allow the Department of Defense to be referred to as the Department of War. Although the department’s formal name will remain unchanged, this order permits Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to incorporate alternative titles such as “secretary of war” and “Department of War” in both official documents and public statements.
