Trump says Hamas has until Sunday evening to accept Gaza peace proposal or 'all hell' will 'break out'

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump announced a deadline for Hamas to accept a ceasefire agreement proposed by his administration to halt the ongoing conflict in Gaza, setting the cutoff at 6 p.m. Sunday.

“Should this FINAL OPPORTUNITY not be taken, unprecedented repercussions will ensue for Hamas,” Trump declared Friday in an extensive post on Truth Social.

Earlier this week, Trump mentioned he would grant Hamas three to four days to consider the plan, which Israel has approved. Qatar, involved in mediating peace, confirmed the proposal was conveyed to a Hamas delegation on Monday evening by officials from Qatar and Egypt.

The president asserted that 25,000 Hamas members have been eliminated following the group’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. He implied he would decide on further actions against the group, although U.S. forces are not present in Gaza.

“Many are surrounded and MILITARILY TRAPPED, simply awaiting my command to proceed, thereby swiftly ending their lives. For the rest, we are aware of your locations and identities, and you will be pursued and eliminated. I urge all innocent Palestinians to evacuate this area, which may soon become exceedingly dangerous, and move to safer parts of Gaza,” he stated.

But then he said that Hamas would be given “one last chance!”

“THIS ARRANGEMENT ALSO PRESERVES THE LIVES OF ALL REMAINING HAMAS COMBATANTS!” he added. “The specifics of the agreement are known globally, and it is highly beneficial for ALL! Peace in the Middle East will be achieved by any means necessary. The violence and bloodshed will cease. RELEASE THE HOSTAGES, EVERY ONE OF THEM, INCLUDING THE BODIES OF THE DECEASED, IMMEDIATELY!”

Trump unveiled the 20-point peace proposal on Monday during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the White House. The plan’s key parts include the simultaneous release of all 48 living and dead hostages held in Gaza, a requirement for Hamas to decommission their weapons, a phased withdrawal of Israeli troops from the territory, an influx of humanitarian aid and the installation of a civilian governing authority for Palestinians. A host of nations in the region, including Qatar, Egypt and Turkey, also offered support for the proposal.

Speaking to the press corps with Trump on Monday, Netanyahu warned that if Hamas rejects the plan or accepts it and doesn’t follow through on its promises, “then Israel will finish the job by itself.”

“This can be done the easy way, or it can be done the hard way, but it will be done,” Netanyahu said. “We prefer the easy way, but it has to be done.”

The president said that if Hamas doesn’t agree to the deal, Israel would have “my full backing to finish the job of destroying the threat of Hamas, but I hope that we’re going to have a deal for peace.”

Trump said of Hamas, “They’re the only one left. Everyone else has accepted it, but I have a feeling that we’re going to have a positive answer.”
