Trump publicly pushes Attorney General Pam Bondi to go after his political foes

President Donald Trump publicly urged Attorney General Pam Bondi on Saturday night, insisting that the Justice Department should take steps against several of his political adversaries.

“We can’t wait any longer; it’s damaging our reputation and credibility. They impeached me twice, and indicted me (5 times!), FOR NOTHING. JUSTICE NEEDS TO BE DONE, NOW!!!” Trump expressed in a Truth Social post.

He remarked that people were voicing concerns about “inaction” and mentioned specific public figures he has clashed with: former FBI Director James Comey, Democratic Sen. Adam Schiff of California, and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Comey was in charge of the investigation into Trump’s potential connections with Russian leadership, which ended with the conclusion that Trump’s campaign did not conspire with Russian operatives.

Schiff, while a member of the House, led the first impeachment of Trump during his first term.

James led a successful civil case against Trump in 2022, alleging that he inflated asset values, including real estate, on loan applications. However, the financial penalty imposed on Trump from the suit was later overturned.

In a follow-up post an hour later, Trump praised Bondi.

“Pam Bondi is doing a GREAT job as Attorney General of the United States,” he wrote.

In a statement provided to NBC News, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said, “President Trump values all Attorney General Bondi does to Make America Safe Again. The President seeks justice and accountability for the numerous corrupt individuals and politicians who misused our justice system against him and his countless patriotic supporters.”

Trump also complained about former acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Erik S. Siebert, who was tasked with looking into mortgage fraud allegations against James. Siebert resigned from office on Friday, though Trump contradicted this in his post — saying he fired Siebert.

Trump, who did not name Siebert in the post, lamented that the former acting U.S. attorney had the support of Virginia’s two U.S. senators — both Democrats.

“We almost put in a Democrat supported U.S. Attorney, in Virginia, with a really bad Republican past,” he wrote.

Trump also lauded Lindsey Halligan, who serves as special assistant to the president and senior associate staff secretary. Halligan is also Trump’s point person in making changes to the Smithsonian museums.

He told Bondi in the post that “Lindsey Halligan is a really good lawyer, and likes you, a lot.” In a follow-up Truth Social post, he said Halligan will be his nominee to replace Siebert.

“She will be Fair, Smart, and will provide, desperately needed, JUSTICE FOR ALL!” Trump said in the post.

The Department of Justice did not immediately return a request for comment.
