Two hospitalized following house explosion in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Two people were rescued and hospitalized following a house explosion in Jacksonville Friday afternoon.

In a Facebook update, the Jacksonville/Morgan County Office of Emergency Management reported that on October 10, around 4:50 p.m., emergency teams were dispatched to a house explosion occurring in the 2100 block of East Morton Avenue, Jacksonville.

Two people were rescued from the home and transported to Jacksonville Memorial Hospital, then transferred to the Springfield Trauma Center.

As of Friday at about 8:23 p.m., the Jacksonville Fire Department was still present at the site, collaborating with the Illinois State Fire Marshal and local partners to determine the explosion’s cause.

The public was advised to steer clear of the area while emergency operations were ongoing. Additional updates will be released as more information is obtained.
