A significant “drug dealer” and reputed gang leader has been captured following a chase along Interstate 81, spanning both Tennessee and Virginia, as confirmed by U.S. Marshals on Monday.

As per a press release from David G. Jolley, the United States Marshal, Jametrick Franklin King was previously sought in Washington County, Tennessee, for probation violations and charges of burglary.

Additionally, King faced a federal indictment from the U.S. District Court in Greeneville, accused of intending to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, Jolley revealed.

“U.S. Marshals of the Eastern District of Tennessee and the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) attempted to arrest King in Kingsport,” noted Jolley in the statement. “However, King noticed a marked police car right before the officers advanced, leading him to flee at high speed.”

King reportedly drove his vehicle onto the shoulder of the highway at speeds over 100 miles per hour while being pursued by THP.

The pursuit soon crossed into Virginia, where King ended up crashing his car on I-81. Emergency teams extracted him from the wreckage, and he was admitted to the Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Once discharged from the hospital without injuries, King was transported to the Carter County Jail, where he awaits his initial court hearing concerning the charges.

“King has a long and violent criminal history that includes aggravated robbery and sale and delivery of controlled substances,” Jolley said. “He also has a history of evading arrest and has run from law enforcement several times in the past. King is a known leader of the Gangster Disciples street gang in Knoxville.”
