Unicoi County man sentenced to life in prison for 2022 murder

A resident of Unicoi County, Tenn. named Tyler Owens, who was found guilty of the 2022 murder of Stacie Brugger, received a life sentence with an additional five years of incarceration on Thursday.

In April, a jury convicted Owens of first-degree murder, corpse abuse, felony reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence, among other charges.

In February 2022, Owens shot and killed his girlfriend, Stacie Brugger.

Friends and family members of Brugger gave statements at Owens’ sentencing hearing on Thursday.

Owens himself made a statement during the sentencing, saying he apologizes for what happened back in February.
