The University of Florida is breaking new ground with a complimentary microcourse designed to boost confidence in interacting with artificial intelligence, aiming to seamlessly integrate AI into everyday life.
This initiative caters to individuals without a technical background, offering practical, adaptable, and self-paced learning experiences accessible to everyone.
Named “AI Whisperer: A Microcourse in Crafting Prompts for Generative AI,” the course guides participants in choosing suitable AI tools and creating effective prompts to produce high-quality outputs for reports, presentations, and visual content.
Course developers highlight that formulating effective prompts is often a significant hurdle for AI newcomers.
John Licato, an associate professor at the USF Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing, explained, “We received feedback from learners across various sectors expressing a need for more practical, step-by-step approaches to using AI tools. The AI Whisperer microcourse was designed to address this by emphasizing real-world application and boosting participants’ confidence in creating prompts that deliver quality outcomes.”
This course, along with another AI-centric microcourse titled “GenAI in Action: Impact and Possibilities,” was developed by USF’s Innovative Education in partnership with experts from the USF College of Education and the USF Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Computing.
Registration for both microcourses is available through the USF Office of Microcredentials.
