() A House task force on government transparency will hold a hearing on unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) next week.
A hearing is set for Tuesday at 10 a.m. ET and will be available to watch live online at newsnationnow.com and through the app (download link available). Additionally, viewers can tune into the hearing with commentary from Reality Check host Ross Coulthart, who will also address questions live on ‘s YouTube channel.
“It is essential for the American public to receive full transparency from the federal government regarding UAP sightings, acquisitions, and studies, along with any potential threats they might pose to public safety,” stated chairwoman Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla.
Questions over what the government knows
This hearing is part of ongoing bipartisan efforts to demand greater transparency on this issue, which has intrigued both lawmakers and citizens since whistleblower David Grusch claimed the Pentagon has been secretly operating a UFO-retrieval initiative.
Grusch’s assertions have been backed by others within the government who argue that the Defense Department is withholding information about UAP sightings and investigations.
Some have even suggested the DoD is in possession of technology and biological material of non-human origin.
The Pentagon’s All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office, responsible for investigating UAP sightings, has dismissed claims of such programs and stated there is no proof that UAPs have an extraterrestrial origin.
AARO did acknowledge that a small number of UAP sightings remained unexplained and merit more investigation.
Transparency push from both parties
Lawmakers from both political parties have pressed the agency to be more transparent in both open and closed hearings, expressing concerns that the department is attempting to circumvent Congressional oversight.
The hearing will focus on Pentagon disclosure and AARO’s effectiveness. Witnesses include Air Force veterans Jeffrey Nuccetelli and Dylan Borland, Navy veteran Alexandro Wiggins and journalist George Knapp.

You can watch the hearing with Reality Check host Ross Coulthart Tuesday at 10am ET on ‘s YouTube channel. Co-host Meagan Ourada will be there to ask your questions LIVE after the hearing wraps up.
