US Navy Conducts Strategic Strike on Suspected Drug-Trafficking Vessel, Pete Hegseth Reports

In a recent announcement, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth revealed that the United States carried out a significant strike on a vessel suspected of drug trafficking. The operation, which occurred several days ago, was authorized by President Trump.

Hegseth detailed the events of October 17th, stating that under the president’s directive, the Department of War executed a lethal strike on a ship associated with the Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN), a group recognized as a Designated Terrorist Organization. This action took place within the jurisdiction of USSOUTHCOM, reflecting the ongoing efforts to combat narcotics smuggling in the region.

According to intelligence reports, the targeted vessel was engaged in illegal narcotics activities, navigating a well-known smuggling route. It was reportedly carrying a significant quantity of drugs at the time of the strike.

The strike, conducted in international waters, resulted in the deaths of the three individuals aboard the vessel. Hegseth’s social media post, along with an accompanying video, captured the dramatic moment when the boat was struck and exploded.

In recent months, the U.S. military has intensified its operations against suspected narcotics trafficking in the Caribbean Sea, resulting in numerous fatalities. President Trump has declared these actions part of an “armed conflict” against drug cartels, which the administration has labeled as terrorist entities. This stance provides the legal justification for the military’s aggressive posture. The Ejército de Liberación Nacional is among the Colombian armed groups targeted in this campaign.

On Sunday, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., said that recent strikes “go against all our traditions” in the U.S.

“When you kill someone, you should know, if you’re not at war, not in a declared war, you really need to know someone’s name at least,” Paul said on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.”

“You have to accuse them of something. You have to present evidence. So all of these people have been blown up without us knowing their name, without any evidence of a crime,” he added.
