USF football Returns to Associated Press Top 25

USF Football Makes a Comeback in AP Top 25 Rankings

TAMPA, FLA., OCT. 5, 2025 – After a comprehensive 54-26 victory against Charlotte in USF’s American Conference debut, South Florida football has re-entered the Associated Press Top 25 Poll, achieving a 4-1 record this season.

The Bulls are now ranked No. 24 in the AP Poll, having amassed 631 yards, with 407 yards from rushing alone, against the 49ers. Quarterback Byrum Brown was instrumental, contributing five touchdowns. He threw for 211 yards and four touchdowns and also ran for a personal best of 162 yards, scoring one rushing touchdown – marking his sixth career game exceeding 100 rushing yards. Brown currently stands at No. 24 nationally in terms of points per game, with 15.6.

USF’s defense brought back memories of its past strength by forcing six of Charlotte’s first eight possessions to end in three plays or less, blocking a punt for a safety, and making an interception. Charlotte managed just 13 yards in those initial eight drives. By the end of the game, USF had forced four turnovers, continuing a streak of 13 consecutive games with at least one turnover. The Bulls now hold the No. 7 spot nationally for turnovers gained.

Following an impressive start to the season, which included defeating ranked teams consecutively for the first time in the school’s history, USF was previously ranked No. 18 in the AP Poll after Week 2. They started the season with a commanding 34-7 win over No. 25 Boise State at home, followed by an 18-16 win over No. 13 Florida at The Swamp. Notably, Florida recently triumphed over No. 9 Texas in Gainesville.

USF’s return to the national rankings is a continuation of its successful history and marks its 50th appearance in the poll. Their single defeat this season was an away game against Miami, which is currently ranked No. 2 in the latest AP Poll.
