Stocks, Anderson to lean on chemistry in senior season

MT. ZION, Ill. (WCIA) — Mt Zion football showed they can be a force after a seven-game win streak landed them in the state title game in 2024.

Even after their defeat to Depaul College Prep in Normal, the Braves are set to welcome back a crucial receiving pair: tight end JC Anderson and quarterback Keller Stocks, both returning as seniors.

With his college commitment out of the way, Anderson looks to fulfill a bigger leadership role as a senior.

“It’s about vocal leadership; it’s everything,” Anderson expressed. “It’s about holding everyone accountable because by the end of the season, you’ll reflect on how much better you could have been as a leader and ponder over what actions you took or wish you had taken. So, I’m concentrating on holding people accountable and playing to the best of our abilities.”

Stocks feels added comfort with a season full of starts under his belt, and another year alongside a 6’6″ target like Anderson is a nice perk too.

“We began collaborating closely last year and have gradually improved; this summer, we’ve been putting in a lot of work together,” Stocks stated. “I feel very confident passing the ball to him. When I can’t spot anyone else, I see him open and know I can always connect with him.”

Mt Zion opens the season at home against Limestone August 29.
