In Palmetto, Florida, as evening fell, several residents of Manatee County were treated to the sight of a waterspout under a setting sun.

The waterspout formed as a round of thunderstorms moved through the area. Viewers began sending in photos and videos just before 8 p.m.

One individual observed the spectacle from the fifth floor of a building in Palmetto, capturing footage of the spinning waterspout near Terra Ceia Bay. The clouds were parting, allowing the sun to paint the sky with a warm, golden hue.

Another viewer in Palmetto captured a similar sight in photos. Meanwhile, others on Anna Maria Island got a closer look.

A deputy from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, stationed at Anna Maria Island, also noticed the striking waterspout just before nightfall. Fortunately, no damage was reported by deputies in the area.

The National Weather Service circulated a video of the waterspout submitted on Friday evening, showing a number of beach visitors gathering to admire the phenomenon.
