(NEXSTAR) — Less than a week after “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” was suspended indefinitely due to remarks host Jimmy Kimmel made about the passing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the Walt Disney Company announced the show’s return this week.

According to a statement shared with NewsNation on Monday, the decision to pause the late-night program stemmed from the perception that some of Kimmel’s remarks were “ill-timed and thus insensitive.”

“Over the past days, we engaged in meaningful discussions with Jimmy, leading to the decision to bring the show back on Tuesday,” the statement elaborated.

ABC had put Kimmel’s show on hold indefinitely last week following his comments on the death of Kirk, who was killed on Sept. 10 while delivering a speech at Utah Valley University.

This decision followed Nexstar Media, the parent company of this outlet, announcing it would indefinitely preempt “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” across its ABC affiliates because of his remarks.

President Trump reacted on Truth Social, congratulating ABC for their decisive action and encouraged NBC to remove late-night hosts Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, whom he described as “two total losers.”

Federal Communications Commissioner Brendan Carr, who had called Kimmel’s monologue material “some of the sickest conduct possible,” The Hill reports, also applauded the news.

Kimmel, who has been hosting the show since 2003, is in the final year of a contract that ends May 2026.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
