(AP) – According to the White House, the president is set to make a Friday afternoon announcement from the Oval Office focused on lowering drug prices, though specific details remain sparse.

This follows the president’s recent declaration that his administration has secured a deal with Pfizer aimed at aligning the cost of its prescription drugs in the U.S. with the lowest prices in other developed countries.

While advocates acknowledged the announcement regarding Pfizer as a step forward, they expressed concerns that it overly relies on the pharmaceutical company to decrease prices, rather than incorporating the effort into a broader U.S. policy framework.

The event is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. EDT.
