ORLANDO, Fla. – A man has been charged after allegedly making off with cash and merchandise from a store in Orlando, then attempting to evade arrest by climbing onto a rooftop.
Authorities apprehended Tyrell Staffine following a break-in that occurred before dawn near the intersection of North Westmoreland Drive and West Colonial Drive. Police were alerted to the incident around 4 a.m., thanks to footage from surveillance cameras that captured the suspect in action.
Reports indicate that Staffine used a hefty bolt cutter to break into the store’s cash register area, where he allegedly stole roughly $900 in coins along with cigarettes valued at $2,000.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found that the suspect had scaled the roof of a nearby building in an attempt to avoid capture. Police utilized a drone to monitor his movements as he attempted to conceal himself before finally surrendering.
Staffine is now facing several charges, including burglary of an occupied structure and grand theft.
