GLADSTONE, Mo. (WFLA) — A startling video has surfaced capturing the dramatic moment when a residence in a Kansas City suburb erupted in an explosion, scattering fragments and generating shockwaves that reverberated for blocks.
The blast, which happened on Saturday, killed one person who was inside the home at the time, as well as a large dog, local station KCTV reported.
Fire crews responded to the scene to find the house completely destroyed, the City of Gladstone said in a press release.
Neighboring homes were evacuated out of precaution, but the cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
The neighbor whose home camera captured the blast said the noise was so loud she thought a bomb had gone off.
“It felt as if a bomb had detonated; the house trembled violently, and kitchen fixtures were dislodged from the ceiling, sending us all sprawling,” she recounted to KCTV. “We were convinced the ceiling was collapsing and could hear fixtures crashing down, with windows shattering. Our car alarms started blaring, and vehicle windows burst. We hurriedly grabbed our pets and fled.”
The fire was swiftly contained by emergency crews, ensuring no further danger to the neighborhood. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will aid in the investigation, as reported by KCTV.
