Texas flood relief: How to help

(NEXSTAR) – As the death toll rises from the devastating floods that swept through Central Texas over the holiday weekend, many Americans are searching for ways to assist those who are still struggling to recover and understand the enormity of the disaster.

The violent flash floods, among the most severe the nation has seen in decades, struck camps and residences along the Guadalupe River’s edge early Friday morning. The floods tore sleeping individuals from their cabins, tents, and trailers, carrying them for miles alongside floating debris like tree trunks and vehicles. Some of the survivors were found hanging onto trees for safety.

By Monday, the death count reached at least 104, with a large-scale search ongoing to locate the missing. In heavily affected Kerr County, search teams have recovered 84 bodies, including 28 children. As more rainfall was anticipated on Monday, additional flooding loomed as a threat over the region.

The scale of the loss has understandably stirred emotions and a drive to help. Those looking to show support for flood victims can make donations to either the San Antonio Area Foundation – Kerrville Flood Relief Fund and the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country – Kerrville Flood Relief Fund, both endorsed by the United Way of Central Texas.

“These families are facing unimaginable losses, and we know how strong the Central Texas community is when it comes to rising together in moments of crisis,” Veshell Greene, president & CEO of United Way of Central Texas said in a press release. “This is not just about financial help — it’s about showing up for our neighbors with empathy, love, and action.”

The United Way of Central Texas says every dollar donated to either fund will directly support emergency housing, food, clothing, and other recovery efforts.
