A man from Jonesborough is facing multiple charges after reportedly evading deputies on a motorcycle and abandoning it, only to report it missing two days later.

The Washington County Tennessee Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) stated in a news release that deputies observed a black motorcycle ignoring a stop sign at the junction of Old Embreeville Road and Greenwood Drive on Sunday night.

The motorcyclist evaded deputies and later “dumped the motorcycle, helmet and clothing in a wooded area,” the release states.

Authorities traced the motorcycle to William Todd Rodefer, 61. Additionally, two family members reportedly recognized the apparel found in the nearby woods as what Rodefer was wearing earlier that day.

According to the WCSO, Rodefer came to the sheriff’s office on Tuesday and reported the motorcycle stolen.

Deputies arrived at Rodefer’s home on Tuesday evening and took him into custody. He was charged with the following:

  • Trespass by motor vehicle
  • Felony evading arrest
  • Driving while suspended
  • Stop sign violation
  • False reporting

Rodefer was also served with a warrant for violation of probation when he arrived at the Washington County Detention Center.

As of Thursday, Rodefer was being held on a $21,000 bond and is set to appear in court later in the day for the probation violation charge. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 30 for the other charges he faces.
