AUGUSTA, Ga () – Westside High School serving the community on their by-weeks.

At Masters Table Soup Kitchen, Head Football Coach, Cedric Mason and Offensive Line Coach Marqus Jackson express their desire to show their players the importance of giving back to the community.

This is Cedric Mason’s first year as head coach at Westside and says the tools they use in football go beyond the game.

Mason tells me it means a lot to the people at Westside that these football players are taking time out of their long weekend to help those in need.

“We don’t want to just build football players; we want to nurture great men who grow up to be great fathers, great leaders, and vital parts of their community. During football, we ask for fundraisers and sponsors, and those people work hard for us. We want to be able to give back to those people and prove that we are not just asking for donations but are willing to contribute to the community as well,” said Cedric Mason, Head Football Coach for Westside High School.

The Offensive Line and Character Coach at Westside High School mentions looking forward to supporting the community and hopes that this act of kindness motivates others to volunteer with the many organizations in our area.

“We definitely want to invest more of our time in our community. Especially with the younger generation, there are a lot of negative stereotypes concerning the youth, and we want to show that we have a great group of guys here at Westside. Hopefully, it inspires other teams and people in general to offer their time,” Jackson said.

One of the leaders for the football team says he wants people to recognize Westside not only for how they play but for their help in the community.

“Our aim is to be outstanding members of the community. Westside is not just about sports, but can be remembered for volunteering, helping the community, and assisting when needed—not just when cameras are around, but consistently helping,” said Reonte Brown, Senior and Leader of the Westside High School Football Team.

They will next be partnering with Habitat for Humanity on September 27.
