  • One count of taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in a custodial or supervisory

    relationship

The sheriff declared, “The Wise County Sheriff’s Office is collaborating closely with the Wise County School System to maintain the protection of all students. This inquiry is actively progressing.”

As of Wednesday, Tibbs is being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail without bond.

The Wise County School system released the following statement regarding Tibbs’ arrest:

On the previous day, Wise County Public Schools’ administration was informed about allegations of a staff member engaging in misconduct with a minor. After being notified, they promptly contacted the Wise County Sheriff’s department to initiate an investigation.

Late in the day, the Wise County Public Schools received confirmation from the sheriff’s department that a staff member from their division had been apprehended and was facing serious charges.

Consequently, the individual has been immediately suspended from all duties and placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The school system is fully cooperating with the authorities, but due to the ongoing nature of the criminal investigation, further details cannot be disclosed at this moment.

The safety and well-being of our students is always our top priority. Counselors and support staff are available for those who may need assistance.

We ask for the community’s understanding and cooperation as this matter proceeds through the legal system.
