WSAV's Nakya Harris and Genevieve Lund are GAB's Rising Stars

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Two multimedia journalists have been chosen by the Georgia Association of Broadcasters (GAB) to participate in this year’s Rising Stars program.

The award recognizes a selection of young Georgia journalists in the early stages of their careers who have shown a passion for broadcasting and significant potential in the field. Among this year’s honorees are ‘s very own multimedia journalists, Nakya Harris and Genevieve Lund.

The GAB Conference (GABCON) provides aspiring journalists with the chance to engage with some of Georgia’s top reporters and discuss future challenges and opportunities in today’s industry.

Genevieve views keeping up with social media trends as a potential challenge for the future of Georgia stations, but she also considers it an opportunity for audiences to familiarize themselves with their local reporters and anchors.

“People today want to feel like they know the anchor personally,” she said. “When you tune in and watch reporters, it’s about seeing the personality and feeling like you know that person.”

Nakya believes that social media will drive journalists to be innovative with digital content. She emphasizes the importance of maintaining a connection with the younger generations, “instead of losing them.”

Congratulations to Nakya and Genevieve!
