Mahomet teen biking from Morocco to Singapore

MAHOMET, Ill. (WCIA) — A high-schooler from Mahomet is biking around 14,000 miles and taking the trip of a lifetime.

Seventeen-year-old Haken Anderson has always had a passion for cycling. Now, he’s elevating that passion with a solo journey from Morocco to Singapore. So far, he’s visited countries like France and Kosovo and is currently in Turkey, having completed about a third of his adventure. With each new place he explores and the diverse people he encounters, he has learned one major lesson.

“While in a Turkish town, my bike broke down. I met some locals involved with an English club who kindly invited me to spend time with them as my bike was being repaired,” Anderson shared. “They even welcomed me to have dinner with their family. Experiences like these have shown me that kindness is a universal trait.”

Anderson aims to ride approximately 100 miles daily, camping along the way. This schedule should allow him to reach Singapore by late November.
