VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, a 22-year-old employee working with a tree service tragically lost his life on Monday morning when a section of a tree being trimmed landed on him.

Deputies said that the victim and a coworker were cutting trees on George Ryan Road around 9:40 a.m. when the incident happened.

A report noted that the victim’s coworker, who was in a bucket truck equipped with a chainsaw, had signaled his intention to begin cutting the tree, having ensured the ground below was free of obstacles.

Officials stated that the victim, standing near another truck at a distance, moved back to the area beneath the ongoing cut and was struck by a segment of the tree that fell.

The coworker called 911 and attempted life-saving measures, but the unidentified victim was pronounced deceased at scene, according to the release.

The release further stated, “As of now, the investigation concludes this was an accidental death. The Volusia Sheriff’s Office extends its sympathies to the bereaved family.”
