Zelenskyy says U.S. gave Ukraine and Russia a June deadline to reach agreement to end war


KYIV – Ukraine and Russia have been urged by the United States to finalize a peace agreement by June, marking a critical deadline to resolve the ongoing conflict that has endured for nearly four years, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Should the June deadline be disregarded, the Trump administration is poised to intensify diplomatic pressure on both nations to adhere to the timeline, Zelenskyy indicated.

“The U.S. is advocating for the conclusion of hostilities by the start of summer, and there is an expectation that they will apply significant pressure on both parties to adhere to this timeframe,” Zelenskyy explained during a press briefing on Friday. His remarks were held under embargo until Saturday.

“They have expressed a strong desire to see the conflict resolved by June, making every possible effort to ensure this comes to pass. They also demand a detailed schedule of all proceedings,” he elaborated.

The U.S. has proposed hosting the next series of three-way negotiations on their soil, potentially in Miami, Zelenskyy revealed. “We have confirmed our participation,” he stated.

This new deadline comes after U.S.-facilitated trilateral discussions in Abu Dhabi failed to yield significant progress, as both sides remain firm in their opposing demands. Russia insists on Ukraine’s withdrawal from the Donbas region, where heavy fighting continues—a stipulation that Kyiv firmly rejects.
