A man accused of assaulting an NYPD officer during an attempted arrest linked to a previous stabbing was apprehended Friday morning, according to law enforcement sources.

Sergio Santiago, 41, was detained just hours after allegedly throwing an unidentified object at an officer’s head in the Fordham Road subway station’s B and D train area around 5:20 p.m. on Thursday, sources and authorities reported. Santiago fled the scene following the incident.

The officer sustained a head injury from the attack and was quickly transported by a police vehicle to St. Barnabas Hospital. He is currently in stable condition, police stated.

Santiago, who has a history of six prior arrests, is facing pending charges, sources revealed.

The NYPD officers initially approached Santiago as he was sought for questioning related to an earlier stabbing that took place on Thursday at East 157th Street and Gerard Avenue, officials said.

The individual injured in the stabbing is also reported to be in stable condition, according to police.

Santiago has six prior arrests, his most recent on Jan. 22 when cops spotted him lying outstretched on a train passing through Crown Heights, sources said.

He has one active warrant from Feb. 4 in connection to a violation in the transit system, the sources said.

While Santiago was still on the loose, the NYPD released two images of him – including a mugshot, and a surveillance image of the suspect looking disheveled with a thicker beard, longer hair and a bulky black coat while walking on the sidewalk.
