Mason Mount has revealed that Chelsea dedicated their 3-0 victory over Burnley to Christian Pulisic and praised Timo Werner for his ‘brilliant’ performance after coming into Frank Lampard’s starting XI at the last minute.

The Blues secured their second away win of the Premier League season thanks to goals from Hakim Ziyech, Kurt Zouma and Timo Werner but Pulisic’s injury put a slight dampener on the afternoon for the visitors.

The United States international fell innocuously in Chelsea’s warm-up and cut a frustrated figure as he made his way down the tunnel in the moments before kick-off.

Summer signing Werner came into the side as a replacement and seized his opportunity with Chelsea’s third goal but Lampard bemoaned Pulisic’s injury woes at his post-match press conference.

Asked for an update on Pulisic after the final whistle, Chelsea boss Lampard said: ‘He felt a little something in his hamstring.

‘He’s frustrated because he’s worked so hard to get fit.

‘He’s played three games, we’ve tried to manage him in the week and it’s a small feeling in his hamstring so we’ll have to see how he is over the next 24 hours.’

Lampard added: ‘Hopefully it’s short term, we’re talking weeks.

‘It’s a minor feeling that he had but definitely not right to go into 90 minutes of a game with that.’

Mount wished Pulisic a speedy recovery as he spoke to Chelsea’s website after the win and hailed Werner for the performance he produced after stepping in at short notice at Turf Moor.

‘I felt sorry for Christian, he felt his [hamstring] in the warm up so hopefully he is back soon,’ the Chelsea and England midfielder said.

‘He is an unbelievable player. We dedicated the win to him today. Timo [Werner] came in and was brilliant as were all the players after a tough week.

‘It was a tough week this week, three away games. A lot of travelling and flights, so we didn’t have a lot of time to recover for games but today I thought we were brilliant.

‘Winning the game, winning the fight, matching them up and then we knew what we could do on the ball.

‘I thought we did brilliantly and it showed in the scoreline.’
