The Matildas will look to complete a perfect international break with a win over Taiwan tonight as they look to move closer to qualification for the Olympics.

Sam Kerr bagged a hat trick last time out as the Australians smashed the Philippines in Perth. Arsenal star Caitlin Foord also scored three goals at Optus Stadium.

Tonight, attention turns to Taiwan with Tony Gustavsson focused on building on the wins over the Philippines and Iran.

What time is the Matildas game on tonight?

Australia take on Taiwan at 10pm for fans on the east coast in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

The Matildas will play at HBF Park in Perth, with the game kicking off at 7pm local time. The stadium holds 20,000 fans and previously hosted Australia’s win over Iran.

Why is it on so late?

With Perth three hours behind the east coast, it will be a late night for viewers in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, which could be problematic for youngsters with school the next day.

The game will last 90 minutes, plus injury time, with a 15 minute interval at half time, meaning it will finish at approximately 11:45pm on the east coast.

How can I watch Australia vs Taiwan?

The match will be on free-to-air TV, with Channel Ten showing the game on Wednesday night.

Coverage starts at 9pm AEDT and will conclude at 12.30am on Thursday.

Team news

Matildas stalwarts Ellie Carpenter and Emily van Egmond will miss the Olympic qualifier against Taiwan after returning to their clubs, while hamstrung winger Cortnee Vine is also sidelined.

Vine’s absence for Wednesday night’s game at Perth’s HBF Park was expected.

The winger has returned to her club side Sydney FC for treatment after suffering a hamstring injury 10 minutes after entering the fray in Australia’s 8-0 thumping of the Philippines on Sunday.

But Football Australia said deals had been in place for Carpenter and Van Egmond to return to their clubs before the third game.

Tony Gustavsson has been managing his squad, with many stars travelling from Europe for the short international break. Sam Kerr came off the bench against Iran and started against the Philippines.

Can Australia qualify for the Olympics with a win tonight?

Australia have effectively locked in top spot in Group A, but that does not mean they are packing their bags for Paris yet.

A place in the third round of qualifying awaits, where the four top-ranked sides will be whittled down to the two who will qualify for the Olympics.

The two-legged tie will take place in February 2024.
