The official list of America’s most popular baby names for 2024 has arrived.

WASHINGTON — In 2024, Liam and Olivia once more topped America’s baby name charts, as revealed by the official list published by the Social Security Administration on Friday.

With Olivia maintaining its position as the most popular girl’s name for six consecutive years, and Liam leading the boys for eight years straight, 22,164 baby boys were named Liam and 14,718 baby girls were named Olivia, based on SSA data.

The top three boys’ names remained unchanged for the third year running, with Liam taking the lead, followed by Noah and Oliver. Completing the top five for boys were Theodore and James.

For the girls, Emma was the runner-up once again for the sixth consecutive year, followed by Amelia, Charlotte and Mia in the top five.

Only one new name appeared in the top 10 lists this year, with Sofia vaulting from 12th in 2023 into the top 10 for the very first time. As a result, Luna fell to 13.

The Social Security Administration releases the annual list of top baby names around Mother’s Day each year.

The Social Security Administration began sharing the most popular baby name list in 1997, with names and data going all the way back to 1880. At the time of a child’s birth, parents give the name to the agency when applying for a child’s Social Security card, so the SSA list is considered America’s official source for the most popular baby names.

Over the last 100 years, James has been the most popular name for boys, while Mary has been most popular for girls.

According to SSA data, the top five names rising in popularity the fastest for girls was Ailany, Aylani, Marjorie, Scottie, Analeia. For boys, it was Truce, Colsen, Bryer, Halo and Azaiah.

You can see the full list of the 1,000 most popular baby names in 2024 at www.ssa.gov/babynames, and see how popular your name was the year you were born and where it is currently ranked now.
