JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says a woman was killed Saturday morning after striking two vehicles on Lane Avenue.
Lieutenant Mana with JSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit says the woman was heading south on Lane Avenue near Hyde Grove Avenue at around 1 a.m. when she rear-ended a grey Chevrolet Malibu. The woman, driving a Hyundai Sonata, fled the area at high speeds, according to police.
Police say the woman traveled about half a mile south on Lane Avenue before crashing into another vehicle, said to be a Toyota Corolla. Police say the woman driving the Hyundai Sonata was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. The driver of the Toyota Corolla was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
Lt. Mana says the person hit in the Chevrolet Malibu left the area before speaking with police. They say the vehicle should have rear-end damage, and they’re asking anyone with information about that vehicle to contact JSO’s non-emergency number at (904) 630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS (8477).
The sheriff’s office says this is the 15th traffic fatality in Duval County since the start of the year.
