Brooklyn boy, 11, remains in critical condition after hit-run; driver on loose

Residents near a street where an 11-year-old boy was struck by a hit-and-run driver said they want the heartless motorist captured and put in jail.

Authorities are still searching for the driver of a black Acura that hit a boy riding a stand-up electric scooter on Monday afternoon in Gravesend and then drove off, according to officials.

The collision also affected a 25-year-old man who was injured by debris from the impact, as reported by the police. The boy is still in critical condition as of Tuesday, while the man has been discharged from the hospital, a relative confirmed.

“I really hope they find this person,” expressed a concerned neighbor who has lived near the crash location for 30 years. “We’re all praying for this young boy to recover quickly.”

Police stated that the boy was close to the intersection of Avenue V and Ocean Parkway just before 6 p.m. on Monday when he was struck by a sedan heading north on the parkway toward Avenue V.

EMS transported both victims to Maimonides Medical Center.

“He’s out of the hospital, thank God,” the older victim’s mother told the Daily News on Tuesday. “But his leg is really bad. It’s banged up bad.”

Police found the damaged car four blocks away on Ocean Parkway and Avenue R.

The Acura’s windshield was shattered and the front of its hood on the passenger side was damaged.

There have been no arrests.

Another neighbor said he heard the collision.

“There was a loud noise upon impact,” the witness recalled. “The boy ended up face down on the road. All the vehicles came to a stop, blocking traffic. People gathered around him for about five minutes without touching him until the ambulance arrived quickly.”

The NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad is looking into the incident.
