A Kansas man and his girlfriend are facing serious allegations after reportedly forcing a 4-year-old girl to stand outside in freezing temperatures, dressed only in her underwear, while the family decorated a Christmas tree inside. The punishment was purportedly because the girl wet herself, according to authorities.

Brady Burr, 26, and Abby Bradstreet, 36, have been charged with child abuse and child endangerment, as per court documents. The incident came to light when Burr dropped off the girl and her brother at their mother’s home in Salina on December 7th. The children had spent the day at Burr’s residence in McPherson.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Burr informed the children’s mother that the young girl had wet her pants twice and might have developed a rash. However, instead of a rash, the mother discovered bruises on her daughter’s backside. She also noticed the girl’s feet were “red, almost purple, and extremely cold,” the affidavit reported. When questioned about her day, the girl replied that she didn’t deserve to help decorate the tree. The child explained that she was punished by being placed alone on the porch because she had been “bad.” This account was corroborated by law enforcement officials.

The affidavit further revealed that the girl claimed she was spanked with a spoon due to the accidents.

During police interviews, the children provided more details. The girl asserted that Bradstreet had made her stand outside on the porch clad only in her underwear. Her brother corroborated this, adding that Burr and Bradstreet also made her eat dinner in the bathtub. He estimated she was outside for 50 minutes, although the girl said it was only five minutes. The suspects allegedly instructed her to remain still while outside.

Cops brought the kids in for interviews. The girl said Bradstreet made her stand outside on the porch wearing only her underwear. Her brother also said Burr and Bradstreet made the girl eat dinner in the bathtub. He estimated his sister was outside for 50 minutes while the victim said it was for five minutes. The suspects allegedly told the girl to stand and not move while she was on the porch.

Investigators say the temperatures were between 28 and 30 degrees that day.

Burr and Bradstreet were arrested on Dec. 11 and have since posted bond. Their next court dates are set for Tuesday.
