Background: News footage of DeMarcus Pleasure at his sentencing on Nov. 7 (WDTN). Inset: Reka Jarmon (Montgomery County Sheriff”s Office).
In February, Jarmon and 38-year-old DeMarcus Pleasure kidnapped Pleasure’s nephew, taking him to a different location where they attacked him by pouring bleach on his face. Pleasure had already pleaded guilty on November 7 and received a three-year prison sentence for his role in the crime.
The details of the case reveal that on February 22, Jarmon and Pleasure arrived at the 12-year-old boy’s residence, forcibly took him into their car, and then transported him to another site. There, they inflicted injuries by pouring bleach on his face, affecting his eyes and facial skin. Fortunately, the boy has since made a full recovery.
During his court appearance, Pleasure expressed regret, telling the judge, “I made a mistake,” and claimed he did not realize that taking the boy in such a manner constituted kidnapping. He further explained, “I lived with this little boy. I raised him as my own.”
Both the Dayton Daily News and local CBS station WHIO reported that there were unconfirmed suggestions from Dayton police that the boy might have been under suspicion for sexual assault. However, this claim remains unverified.
The Dayton Daily News and local CBS affiliate WHIO both reported that Dayton police said the boy might have been suspected of sexual assault, but this information was not confirmed.
Pleasure pleaded guilty to abduction, and charges of kidnapping and assault were dropped.
Jarmon also had charges of kidnapping, assault, and abduction dropped as part of her plea deal. A judge sentenced her to time served, allowing her to walk free.
