At least six people are dead and nine others were injured in a mass shooting overnight in Sacramento, California, KXTV reports.

The shooting occurred early Sunday morning, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Video posted to Twitter reportedly shows a partial recording of the shooting, with crowds of people running through a street and sounds of gunfire in quick succession in the background. However, the authenticity of the video could not be immediately confirmed.

Berry Accius, a community activist, described to the Associated Press what he saw when he went to the scene around 2:30 a.m., shortly after the shooting.

“The first thing I saw was like victims. I saw a young girl with a whole bunch of blood in her body, a girl taking off glass from her, a young girl screaming saying, ‘They killed my sister.’ A mother running up, ‘Where’s my son? Has my son been shot?’“ Accius told the AP.He added: “You know, commotion, trauma. It’s just a lot of things that, you know, you don’t want to see.”

Accius further told KXTV: “A lot of victims with blood, just watching some of the families that didn’t know if their loved one was alive, running, trying to figure out what was happening, people distraught, people discombobulated. It was just horrific.”

Authorities have not released many details about the incident. The Sacramento Police Department posted a tweet Sunday morning that reads, “Officers located at least 15 shooting victims, including 6 who are deceased. There will be a media staging area at 9th St/K St. Continue to follow this thread for updates.”The shooting occurred near 10th and J streets, Sacramento police spokesperson Sgt. Zach Eaton told CNN.

Community members were being advised to stay away from the area, which is a popular social venue with many bars and restaurants near Golden One Center, the arena where Sacramento Kings play NBA basketball.

The shooting scene is also just blocks from the state capitol building, ABC News reports.

Authorities were preparing to give a press briefing later Sunday morning.
