Marc Rochecouste was jumping at Hillman Farm Skydiving Club on Sunday, 10 minutes out of the south-west town of Darkan in the Wheatbelt region.
He was given first aid at the scene, but was unfortunately unable to be saved.
The Australian Parachute Federation has sent an investigator from Melbourne to try and figure out exactly what had gone wrong.
The 36-year-old was an experienced skydiver, having completed at least 600 jumps.
He is being remembered as a man that lived a life of adventure.
Mr Rochecouste’s partner took to social media to share her devastation, saying “his life was cut short but I can assure you it was packed full of the best experiences. He was the most loving and adoring father”.
Other tributes have flowed for the experienced and competitive jumper.
One post online said Mr Rochecouste “taught me how to fly and you will never know how that changed my life”.
“Adventure was your middle name,” another person said.
Investigators are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
