Inside Tiger Woods' lavish 50th birthday party

Legendary golfer Tiger Woods quietly marked his 50th birthday last month, but it seems the main festivities are still in the works.

On December 30, Woods, who has clinched 15 major titles, reached this significant age milestone, making him eligible to compete on the PGA Tour Champions with other seasoned golf greats.

Tributes poured in from fellow athletes, celebrities, and industry insiders to honor the occasion, yet there was no indication of an extravagant celebration.

Rumor has it that Woods, currently dating Vanessa Trump, the former spouse of Donald Trump Jr., was simply waiting for the right moment.

According to Front Office Sports, Woods, who boasts 82 PGA Tour wins, is gearing up for a grand celebration with a star-studded event planned for January 14.

This exclusive gathering is expected to take place at The Breakers, a lavish resort situated in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The celebrity-packed 300-strong guest list is said to feature Woods’ fellow professional and close friend, two-time major winner Justin Thomas, as well as his confidant and former caddie Joe LaCava.

Other sporting stars, including New York Giants legend and television star Michael Strahan and Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, are also expected to be in attendance.

Blank is part of the Strategic Sports Group that has invested $1.5 billion in the PGA Tour and also owns the Atlanta Drive Golf Club, one of the founding teams in Woods and Rory McIlroy’s tech-infused TGL.

Meanwhile, rock powerhouse Jon Bon Jovi is said to be providing the entertainment for the swanky event, which will honor Woods in almost every aspect.

Guests have reportedly been instructed to wear a ‘touch of red’ per the dress code in homage to Woods’ ‘Sunday Red’ – his tradition of wearing red polos on the final day of competition which has since inspired his apparel brand.

The menu reportedly takes inspiration from Woods’ Masters Champion Dinners, which has seen the prestigious Augusta National Golf Club serve up dishes such as steak and chicken fajitas, sushi, crab cakes, and even cheeseburgers and French fries in honor of his five victories.

In fact, the soiree is expected to be so big that it warrants its own title and sponsor.

The event, dubbed ‘RED: Celebrating Legacy presented by EY US’, will be hosted by Woods’ TGR Foundation, doubling as the official launch of the nonprofit’s 30th anniversary campaign with the accounting firm formerly known as Ernst & Young acting as presenting sponsor.

‘It’s a lot more than a birthday party, and it’s a lot more than an event,’ TGR Foundation CEO Cyndi Court told Front Office Sports.

‘It’s an event that’s culminating a year of work, and then launching a year of hard work going forward, and what we’re going to do as we expand and grow.’

She added: ‘We definitely could have made it bigger. But we also wanted it to be intimate so that we could celebrate people that throughout the years have made tremendous commitments to Tiger’s vision of what could be possible in the future.’

The idea for a combined celebration of his 50th birthday and 30th anniversary of his nonprofit foundation has reportedly been in the works for a year with the party recognizing Woods’s accomplishments on the course, his legacy off the course, and looking ahead at what’s to come.

The TGR Foundation is said to have set a fundraising goal of $50million that will support the expansion of TGR Learning Labs.

Woods remains among the sport’s greatest attractions despite being plagued by injuries over the past decade and a half.

He has competed in just 11 PGA Tour events since a serious car crash in February 2021. He is currently recovering from his seventh back surgery and has yet to reveal whether will play on the Champions tour.

He would join dozens of other ageing giants – including Fred Couples, John Daly, Jim Furyk and Vijay Singh – who compete over 54 holes and can use carts at most events outside the majors.

Woods has made a number of botched comebacks in recent years and last season marked the first time in his career that he didn’t compete in a single PGA Tour tournament.

The 50-year-old, whose son Charlie is a rising star of high school golf, ruptured his left Achilles tendon in March while training ahead of the Masters. Then, in October, Woods went back under the knife to replace a disk in his lower back.

Woods has helped his son Charlie win two state championships in three seasons with The Benjamin School. The 16-year-old’s coach recently lifted the lid on both father and son during an interview with the Daily Mail.

But last month, the 15-time major champion gave a concerning update on his own game.

Woods revealed that his recovery from back surgery is not going ‘as fast as I’d like it to be’.

‘I’d like to come back to just playing golf again,’ he said. ‘I haven’t played golf in a long time. It’s been a tough year. I’ve had a lot of things happen on and off the golf course that’s been tough. And so my passion [is] to just play, I haven’t done that in a long time.’
